What cookies are and why we use them

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your computer, tablet or phone. When you return to the site, your browser sends that file back, which lets us recognise the device and remember what happened during your previous visit.

Other technologies do much the same job in a slightly different way, including pixels, tags, software kits built into our apps and the storage space that modern browsers provide. Where this policy says cookies, it covers those technologies as well.

We set cookies for four broad purposes:

  • To make the site work. Signing you in, holding your session open as you move between pages, and keeping your deposit or withdrawal request intact while you complete it in the cashier.
  • To keep your account secure. Recognising the device you normally use, spotting unusual sign-in patterns, and supporting the checks we carry out before a payment is processed.
  • To remember your choices. The language you read the site in, the way you prefer odds or balances to be displayed, and whether you have already closed a notice so we do not show it again.
  • To measure how the site performs. Counting how many people reach a page, seeing which steps people leave part-way through, and recording how quickly pages and games load.

We only use cookies where they serve one of these purposes. Strictly necessary cookies are set because the site cannot function without them. Everything else is set only if you agree, and you can change your mind later.

What cookies do not contain

The cookies we set do not hold your password, your full card number or your bank details. Those details are handled through the secure systems behind your account, not stored in files on your device.

The types of cookies we use

Cookies on our site fall into the four categories below. Some are placed by us and some by the service providers who supply parts of the site, such as the game windows, the payment pages and the live chat tool. Some last only until you close your browser; others stay on your device for a set period so your settings survive between visits.

Strictly necessary cookies

These keep the site running and your account protected, so they cannot be switched off through our cookie notice. They allow you to log in and stay logged in, balance traffic across our servers so pages stay available, and help us detect automated or fraudulent activity. They also support the age and identity checks that apply to every account, and they remember any account controls you have in place while you are signed in.

Performance and analytics cookies

These tell us how the site is used, in grouped form rather than as a profile of you. Typical purposes include counting visits to a page, measuring how long pages take to load on different devices, and showing us where people drop out of a process such as registration or a deposit. We use what they show to fix faults and simplify the steps that cause the most difficulty.

Functionality cookies

These remember the choices you make so you do not have to repeat them. Examples include holding your language setting, keeping a list of games you have marked as favourites, remembering whether you prefer a full-screen or windowed view, and keeping the live chat conversation open while you move to another page.

Marketing cookies

These help us judge whether our own promotional messages reach the right people and whether they work. Typical purposes include limiting how often you see the same message, recognising that you have already opened an account so we do not advertise registration to you, and measuring how many people who saw a message went on to use it. We do not direct marketing at anyone who has told us to stop, and we do not direct it at anyone who is self-excluded.

How to manage cookies in our notice and in your browser

You have two sets of controls: the cookie notice on our site, and the settings in the browser or device you are using.

In our cookie notice

  1. When you first visit, the cookie notice appears and lists the categories described above.
  2. Accept all categories, decline everything that is not strictly necessary, or open the detailed settings and choose category by category.
  3. Save your choice. We apply it immediately and record it so you are not asked again on every page.
  4. To change your mind later, open the cookie settings link shown in the footer of the site and set the categories again.

In your browser

Every current browser lets you see the cookies stored on your device, delete them, block them from particular sites, or block them all. The controls usually sit in the privacy or security part of the settings menu, and the help pages built into your browser explain the exact steps for the version you are running. Mobile devices offer similar controls in the system settings, including an option to reset or limit the advertising identifier used by apps.

Two points are worth knowing. First, your choices are stored on the device and browser you made them on, so you will need to set them again on a different phone or computer, or after clearing your stored data. Second, clearing cookies will sign you out and remove saved preferences such as language and display settings.

What happens if you block or delete cookies

Declining the optional categories will not stop you using your account with us. Blocking cookies altogether is different, because the strictly necessary files are part of how the site works.

  • You may be unable to log in, or you may be signed out each time you move to a new page.
  • Deposits and withdrawals may fail part-way through, because the cashier cannot keep track of the request.
  • Game windows may not open or may lose your progress.
  • Preferences such as language and display settings will be forgotten on every visit.
  • Some security checks may flag your device as unrecognised more often than usual.

Essential cookies cannot be switched off here

If you block all cookies in your browser, parts of the site will not work fully and we may not be able to keep your session secure. If you want to limit tracking without losing basic functions, decline only the analytics and marketing categories in our cookie notice.

Cookies, your account controls and safer gambling

Our site is for adults aged 18 or over. We hold a gaming licence and we verify the age and identity of every account holder, and some of the cookies described above support those checks and the limits you set.

The safer gambling tools in your account, including deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, are stored against your account rather than on your device. Clearing cookies or switching devices does not weaken them, and it cannot be used to get around a limit, a time-out or a self-exclusion.

If gambling is causing you difficulty, free and confidential support is available from GambleAware, GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline. GamStop lets you block yourself from licensed online gambling sites in Great Britain across all operators at once.

Changes to this policy and how to reach us

We update this policy when the cookies we use change, when we add a new part of the site, or when the law or guidance that applies to us changes. The current version always sits on this page, and we will ask for your choices again where a change needs fresh consent.

If you want to know more about a particular cookie, ask us to confirm what information it holds, or exercise your data protection rights, contact us by e-mail at support@casinojokabet.co.uk or through the live chat on the site. For data protection questions, including requests about the information cookies generate, you can write to privacy@casinojokabet.co.uk.

Please include the e-mail address registered to your account when you contact us, so we can check your request against our records and answer it without delay.
